Can you be married over a long distance?

Can two people get married without actually being physically together during the marriage? For example, can the marriage licence be mailed to one person so they can sign it, and then mailed back to the judge? Or is there another way of doing this? Can you be married over a long distance?
No..you have to be physically present for a Justice of a Peace to verify who you are and say that you two were in fact the ones getting married.

The problem with what you are describing is what if someone steals someones ID or is a stalker. They could, in theory , marry someone without the other person knowing if they stole the other person's personal ID.

If you thought someone stealing your ID to run up a credit card is bad...think of how bad it would be to find out one day that you are legally married and being divorced for half of everything you own. Or your income tax refund being cashed in by your ';new spouse'; after they file a joint income tax return with your name on it.

Lots of bad things can happen if two people aren't there in person to be verify everything. Can you be married over a long distance?
Oh, probably, somewhere. You would have to check the laws of solemnizing a marriage in the relevant jurisdiction BUT make sure the solemnization is recognized in the place you each of you intends to live or you will have a conflict of laws case that will keep attys humming and billing you for years!
No. You must be physically standing next to each other during the ceremony. You can't get married through the mail, why would you want to?
its impossible
why the hell would you want to do that? No i dont think its legal
why the hell would you want to do that
