How will our taxes be effected after we get married?

When I do my taxes (I am already VERY LOW INCOME) I get a good refund back for being low income %26amp; because of my children. I am getting married next year, he is very low income as well, I think that both of our incomes together still keep us in the low income tax bracket, how will that effect our taxes as far as the EIC (Earned income tax credit) %26amp; the credits for our children? Just wandering if we will still be able to expect a good refund the following years or not. Thank you for your answers!!How will our taxes be effected after we get married?
Normally, tax wise you are not punished for getting married. On the contrary you should expect a better combined refund.

When married you can file as married filing jointly (MFJ) or married filing separately. In most cases, it is better to file as MFJ. If you file MFS, you will not get many credits and deductions. How will our taxes be effected after we get married?
If you file separately, then you may no longer qualify for the EIC because I think there is a rule restricted it to those who either file jointly or are single. I could be wrong.

If you are married and file jointly, then the maximum total income that is in the tax bracket to which you refer is greater than it is for single persons. Therefore, if you are both in that bracket now, you are likely to remain there after marrying.
Dear MM: The EITC limit for married last year was $41,000 for 2 kids and $ 37,000 for 1 kid. If your combined income was more than those numbers you would not qualify.

Keep in mind those numbers were last years numbers and will change a little this year and for '09 the EITC will be calculated on 3 kids not the 2 (max) of years past.

If you know your income numbers, go to www.hrblock.com and try their free calculator to get an idea on your refund with EITC included.

Your query did not contain enough facts and figures for the Accounting GURU to give you a correct answer: it could go either way: you could end up with a higher EIC and bigger refund or the two low incomes could combine to make a higher tax bracket and an Account balance: Sorry, need more detail.. However, if it goes like your query suggest, you should be fine: I am on Facebook Ernest Benjamin Hinton
