Can a married man living in washington state take paternity leave? If so, will he be paid?

My wife is halfway through her pregnancy. I want to help her for a couple weeks after the one gets here. So, by law, can I take paternity leave? If so, will I be paid for it?Can a married man living in washington state take paternity leave? If so, will he be paid?

For the State of Washington (Family and Medical Leave Act):


Family and medical: public employers and private employers of 100 or more employees are required to offer 12 weeks in any 24 month period for the birth or adoption of a child or to care for a child under 18 years old with a terminal health condition





But I did find this on the same website, apparently WA does have paid family leave available:

An employer shall allow an employee to use the employee's accrued sick leave to care for a child of the employee under the age of eighteen with a health condition that requires treatment or supervision (1988); effective January 1, 2003, an employer also must allow an employee to use sick leave to care for a spouse, parent, parent-in-law, or grandparent of the employee who has a serious health condition or an emergency condition (2002)Can a married man living in washington state take paternity leave? Well, the thing is that paternity leave, although legal, is very looked down upon by the bosses. My DH was told in no uncertain terms that he would be in better standing to take a week of vacation time instead. I imagine if there was a medical reason such where the wife was incapacitated then that would be a different story. But, IMO, if you like your job and don't want to risk your reputation you better take the vacation leave.
It would be better for you to use vacation time- that is where most companies take out the time for ';paternity'; leave, but around here they call it family friendly time...... contact your employer and find out more information.
Of course.
Any guy can take paternity leave using the Family Leave Act. However, it's up to your company whether you are paid or not. Most Dads just use vacation time.
