A friend of mine came here some years ago and married someone so they can get their papers. Now my friend wants to divorce their spouse because they never intended to be with this person for an extended period of time. However the spouse does not want to divorce and is willing to cause trouble and problems for other people. (To add more to the mix, there is a question of if a certain child belongs to my friend.) How do I help? What advice do I offer without getting my friend deported, but allowing them to get the divorce they want??How does someone divorce their spouse, when they only married them for their papers?
This sounds fishy. When you marry a US citizen, you receive a conditional green card that's good for two years. After two years, if the couple is still married, the condition is removed and the green card becomes permanent. As long as all of the relevant paperwork was filled out, there should be no problem filing for divorce, even if the other person doesn't want one.
But your friend committed fraud on the US Government by coming here and marrying under false pretenses. He should absolutely be deported. How does someone divorce their spouse, when they only married them for their papers?
Your friend would be in trouble but also this person would be in trouble also.
Your friend sounds like they need a lawyer.
report her to immigration, we do not need that kind over here.
He deserves what he gets. Especially if he slept with this woman. I hope your friend gets deported and gets his @ss whooped.
they can divorce if the conditions have been removed and will not be deported.my brother in law (who got the green card, but i think they only got married cuz she was 16 and got pregnant) got a divorce after 8 years but she was the one who cheated on him.if it has only been a little time the citizen can be mean and pull the green card.but i really dont know b/c you dont give enough info as how long have they been married, which spouse wants the divorce, and things like that.
Deport immediately. What's wrong with you?
If your friend married someone just for papers, they get what they deserve. Enough of this crap already!
